work

Things I’ve designed, built and coded, mostly for the lab I work in.

in the lab

  • Straw Multi Filler

A resin-printed tool that helps fill French straws for cryopreservation. Atlantic Aqua Farms is beta testing it right now in their oyster (Crassostrea virginica) operations.

  • TURTLE Logger

An open-source thermocouple data logger built on an Arduino. It tracks how long a sample takes to reach -80 °C, so you can watch the freezing rate and know when it’s done. I wrote the C++ and Python for it.

  • CryoCan cooling

The Ambystoma Genetic Stock Center had trouble freezing samples with the CryoCan, so I worked on figuring out why it cooled differently depending on the filament it was printed in.

  • Zebrafish Kit inserts

I designed and 3D printed the tool inserts for the Zebrafish Kit used by the Zebrafish International Resource Center (ZIRC), built around what ZIRC needed most.

design

  • Community Playground Project

I’m the design engineer. I designed Ferriday Elementary’s playground and modeled the equipment for its 3D render, and I’m refining a design for Labadieville Elementary with the team.

  • LCDC

At the Louisiana Collegiate Design Competition, six of us had to design and build a bridge, a car and a plane from craft materials. Our bridge was the best one there.

apps

  • General Engineering Course Planner

A degree planner for LSU engineering students. You drag courses into semesters and it checks prerequisites and keeps track of every requirement, even for a double major. It started as Dr. Bruno Rego’s Biological Engineering planner. I built the course catalog and degree audit, and added double majors and minors.

  • Birdbrain

A Windows app that keeps one daily to-do list for school. It pulls your assignments, exams and events from your own Moodle, Outlook email and calendar (plus Gradescope or McGraw Hill Connect if you use them), and everything stays on your PC. I wrote it in Python.

ideas

  • HUD glasses

A snap-on attachment that projects a heart-rate readout from my smartwatch onto my glasses. Maybe computer vision later.

    idea
  • Robotic arm gantry

A three-joint arm on a wall-mounted gantry, moved with inverse kinematics.
